Sergii Potapenko
Great man, great places, great times....
Born 05.07.1986 in Nikopol, Ukraine, died 09.06.2021 Poland. Explorer of many Upper Racha valleys, ridges and peaks in winter. Pioneer of winter sports in the Racha mountains.
In the winter of 2013, he began an intensive exploration of the region. He has described and documented many slopes, in terms of difficulty and terrain characteristics: Shoda, Mukhamesh, Geske, Choguri, Shtala-Khvargula, Chanchakhi, Dgviora and Dolomistsveri with the now famous Snake culvert. He was the first to climb Shoda 3609.6 mnpm and the Tsikhvargi glaciers in the winter season, descended on a splitboard Since 2017 he was part of the Adventure Holidays in Ghebi team. Thanks to his activities, the whole world from North America to Europe, Asia to Australia has heard about winter Upper Racha.
He was a great friend, guide and a good man.
Now Adventure Holidays in Ghebi continues his work in collaboration with SnowLab Gudauri and Winter in Georgia. Each season we organise 3 freeride events from 5 to 10 days.
"I was introduced to the Racha region by Sergei Potapenko. We worked with him in the Gudauri resort.
We worked in the resort of Gudauri. When Sergei started showing me photos and videos, it was immediately clear that the region was large, not easy and very interesting.
Over the course of several years, Sergei did a lot of work. He went to the mountains alone, with his only helper being a drone, with which he explored approaches to interesting trails. He has taken a lot of photos and descriptions of the region, and owns unique descents that no one else has done but him. Undoubtedly, his contribution to the development of freeriding on Racha is huge, because before him no one considered it as a potential region for freeriding" - Rustam Ibragimov.
"Every conversation, every ride, every visual takes me back to the places we've ridden and filmed together....
In a fortnight it will be the first anniversary since the film has been on the air. A film about a strong man who has never seen and will never see the film in this lifetime....
Great man, great places, great times....
Thank you Sergii Potapenko / RachaFreeride.com, Georgia, Caucasus for these lifelong memories. I will never forget and will always pay tribute' - Alex Ostrowski
